Buckminster Fuller (1895-1983), an American visionary, inventor, architect, mathematician, poet, and cosmologist, explored the geometric patterns inherent in nature. He possessed a profound understanding of our Universe and the bodies included therein. He knew that our physical surroundings- from the smallest subatomic particles to the most magnificent of galaxies- are comprised of infinite systems within systems that are elaborately interconnected.  His comprehensive perspective gave form to the myriad designs that emerged from his expansive imagination including the Geodesic Dome, a new field of mathematics called Synergetics, and The Dymaxion World map.  Throughout his life, Fuller was concerned with how humanity could live successfully on our “Spaceship Earth”.   His answer to the various dilemmas was called Design Science Revolution and involved a concerted effort by design engineers to anticipate the needs of humanity and meet them before it was (is) too late.  Fuller’s brilliant work and humanitarian philosphy earned him the nickname the “friendly genius” and this is reflected in his famous quote, “If the success or failure of this planet and of human beings depended on how I am and what I do…How would I be?  What would I do?”
